Headphones  JLab FitSport Earbuds  or  Skullcandy Method Sports Performance Earbud  – Recommended by Runner’s World magazine, these are two lighter and less expensive headphones that would be great to use when working out.   Casper Mattress Three of our five kids moved into first apartments this fall and ordered Casper mattresses which they really, really like. French presses are a great way to make coffee. With nothing more than water and coffee grounds, you can easily produce a cup of coffee worthy of any Parisian cafe. But until now there have been two big drawbacks: A traditional French Press does not keep coffee warm and the glass carafe is all too easily shattered. Enter the double-wall aluminum French press, which solves both of these problems. This one from SterlingPro is very reasonably priced on Amazon Prime, or we liked the Bodum Columbia in a variety of sizes including a single cup version that makes coffee right in a travel mug. Le Creuset offers a ceramic version (shown) in full array of stunning colors.
My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was young, and I pull out that skill each Christmas. I’ve learned to make inexpensive–but really cute–scarves and hats. Each Christmas season I look forward to pulling out my bag of yarn, putting on a Christmas movie, and crocheting away in the evenings. Crocheting and knitting are simple skills anyone can learn!
You have to admit: after a spaceship, this really is the mother of all gifts. And unlike the spaceship, they’ll know how to use a laptop. From paper writing to research to visual design, a laptop is an indispensable piece of equipment that will get constant use. If they don’t give you a sincere, wholehearted thank you for this, you have strict permission to never talk to them again.
Move over, Cards Against Humanity – What Do You Meme? is the new favorite party game. Your man can entertain his friends at parties or giggle with you late at night in his dorm room. Be prepared for gut-wrenching laughter from all of the greatest memes in Internet history, such as Pepe the Frog and The Man Talking on the Phone While Looking Irritated. Besides, who doesn’t love a good meme?
What I really don't like is that thing where Amazon lets the business owner write directly to you after buying this. I've gotten multiple messages (both on this one and when I originally tried a different combo pack from the same seller) saying "You bought my product! Please leave a review!" Here's your review. I paid for the snacks, not the guilt. When I go to Whole Foods the cashier doesn't show up at my front door two days later saying, "How's that avocado working out for you, good?"
Luggage may seem like a great graduation gift, but it has real drawbacks for the college-bound. Teeny dorm rooms generally don’t have any place to store empty suitcases. Solution: A set of duffle bags that can be combined, compressed and stuffed under a bed when not in use. Students typically need at least one large bag for packing linens, towels and winter clothes, and a smaller one for weekend trips back home. Sturdy L.L. Bean, and Patagonia duffels start at less than $40. If you want to go high-end, stylish Filson bags start at $150.
The top concern for parents sending their kids to college is personal safety. A number of new portable safety devices can help with those worries. Robocopp ($10) for example, is described by the company as a sound grenade. It is a small handheld device that is set off by pulling a plug, releasing a 130-decibel alarm, comparable to an ambulance siren. For a higher price, and small monthly fee, they offer a model that can contact 911. Revolar ($60) is one of a new breed of devices where users can “Check-in” with 1-click, ask for back-up with the 2-clicks (Yellow Alert), and signal an emergency with the 3-clicks (Red Alert). Revolar also has a “Ring Me” feature, which lets wearers call their own phones to provide an excuse to exit a situation.
Cologne is always a nice gift cause it shows that you care. It’s basically saying, “I can’t possibly be too close to you.” Just think about the chills he’ll get when your nose lingers near his neck.  Also, make sure you buy him a scent you love. Say goodbye to the scent of middle school (aka overwhelming AXE *gag*) and hello to college sophistication.

Not so crafty? Don’t worry! I’ve found ideas for any ability and skill level (and you can even enlist your kids and/or hubby to help you out). None of these ideas require mad artistic skills and many can be made from repurposed items and things you already have around the house—so your Christmas list just got significantly easier and less expensive!

Polaroid ZIP Mobile Printer Remember how much fun Polaroid photos were? Well, they are only more fun now that the photos can be edited before printing. This mobile printer creates instant photos that are waterproof, tear proof and adhesive backed. It creates prints directly from a mobile phone via Bluetooth and will be the first gift set up on Christmas morning.
On many college campuses bicycles are the mode of transportation, and helpful accessories are a welcome gift. Vibrelli had a great phone mount that allows for hands-free talking and navigation without the risk of dropping your phone. A rechargeable bike light from Light and Motion makes a nice addition to the gift and helps increase safe biking at night.
In my unscientific but thorough survey of gift ideas for college students, I would say some 94.8 percent of all college students have, at some point, either received a copy of Dr. Seuss’s Oh, The Places You’ll Go or had it quoted at them. It’s a classic read, but as far as gifts for college students go, it’s clichéd — and you can give a practical, useful, and unique gift to a college student that’s better than that. To make things a little easier, I spoke with actual college students about the most memorable gifts they’ve ever received, the gear and gadgets they use every day, and the items on their wish lists to find the best gifts for college freshmen, gifts for college graduates, and all the students in between.
