It's common for elementary and high school teachers to get bulk gifts for students such as notebooks or personalized pencils, but even at the college level, some instructors like to give their students a little something at Christmas or at the end of a term. Consumable treats are the best bet for student gifts: Providing special in-class snacks like chocolates, cookies, or bags of popcorn can bring a smile to college students' faces and let them know their teachers appreciate their hard work.
If there was one thing I often went without in college, it was new clothes. I loved getting new clothes, but I couldn’t always justify the expense. Most college students will be THRILLED with any type of clothing. Stitch Fix is one of my favorite creative ideas for a college student – you can give them a gift card to get styled. Stitch Fix sends you a box of personally curated clothes for the recipient. It’s like having your own personal stylist!
If they’ve got to have their morning cup of Joe.. and their afternoon one… and their evening one, this travel mug from Contigo will carry them through the day. It keeps drinks warm up to five hours, and it holds a whopping 16 ounces of their beverage of choice (other models of this cup hold up 24 ounces!). If they like things on the cooler side, it will also keep beverages cold for up to 12 hours.
Isn’t that the boost everyone needs while pursuing their undergraduate degree? Ahead, you’ll find gifts for college students that will cement your cool sister/aunt/mentor status. And if you find more than one gift that is perfect for someone you know, consider sending it in a care package throughout the year. Speaking from past experience, college students love care packages.
The canvas is very strong and comfortable, and there seems to be no defects on the stitching. The buttons, leather straps, buckles and zippers appear to be great quality. I received the XL and think the size is perfect for larger laptops/books. The inner zipper is great for keys while the outer pocket is perfect for the laptop charger and cell phone. There are two pockets on the side, but these are more difficult to get into since there is a buckle (no button) for closure. My only disappointment is that the side pockets are BARELY large enough for a standard bottle of water (and it is still snug). It would have been nice to accommodate different size drinks.

I know I was always wanting a snack when I was studying late into the night – and popcorn was one that I always turned to. While the bagged popcorn is most convenient, it’s not always the best for you. I absolutely LOVE this microwave popcorn maker from Pampered Chef. They have a small version and a family-sized version, and they are both awesome and super easy to use. I wish I had one as a college student.
You wouldn’t think, but an engraved flask is a really thoughtful gift that your boyfriend will enjoy. Alcohol and thoughtfulness? Pretty uncommon pairs, but an engraved flask is a gift that your boyfriend will enjoy. He’ll know you really care about him from the individualized engraving, and he’ll be able to get his drink on at the same time. When I found myself suddenly single with 2 small children, I had to think hard about gifts. I had no money. I started what we call an envelope Christmas I made the kids an envelope for every week of the year. Each week they got to open an envelope, which contained something special they got to do with me. It cost very little. It was just time together. Baking, going to the park, etc. Now my kids are in their 20s and still call to make sure they’re going to get their envelopes! Now they get one a month. They include anything from a home cooked meal, to a girls’ day out.
Sometimes guys’ obsessions with video games can seem a little hard to understand. But if your boyfriend loves them, you can’t pass up an opportunity to hand him something related to it. Buying your man something related to his favorite game, like Overwatch, will show him how much you care. “Even if she hates video games,” said University of Iowa junior Wyatt Dlouhy, “it’s nice to see her go out of her way to learn about something she doesn’t care much about.” Your thoughtfulness will mean so much more than a video game session.
Power cords may be very modern, but these leather wraps are a throwback to a much earlier era. Combining what our kids love, tech and the big trend towards natural materials, this set of wraps will keep cords from traveling in a large tangled mess. Given that our kids carry their laptops, phones, tablets, and the necessary array of cords everywhere they go, these will be used every day.
On many college campuses bicycles are the mode of transportation, and helpful accessories are a welcome gift. Vibrelli had a great phone mount that allows for hands-free talking and navigation without the risk of dropping your phone. A rechargeable bike light from Light and Motion makes a nice addition to the gift and helps increase safe biking at night.
In my unscientific but thorough survey of gift ideas for college students, I would say some 94.8 percent of all college students have, at some point, either received a copy of Dr. Seuss’s Oh, The Places You’ll Go or had it quoted at them. It’s a classic read, but as far as gifts for college students go, it’s clichéd — and you can give a practical, useful, and unique gift to a college student that’s better than that. To make things a little easier, I spoke with actual college students about the most memorable gifts they’ve ever received, the gear and gadgets they use every day, and the items on their wish lists to find the best gifts for college freshmen, gifts for college graduates, and all the students in between.
